Lennon to Lennon: The Same Room
BP Fallon and Sean Lennon are talking on the phone. “What’s it sound like?” BP asks and Sean replies “The end of the world”.
The same room: John Lennon shows Sean the studio during the making of Double Fantasy (1980), photography by Bob Gruen (top image) and Sean Lennon mixing Yoko Ono’s next album, photography by BP Fallon.
Now we’re at Sears Sound on West 48th Street in New York. This used to be The Hit Factory and this is the very same room that Sean Lennon’s mum and dad used in the recording of their Double Fantasy album – the last album released by John Lennon during his lifetime.
Sean Lennon is mixing Yoko Ono’s new record that features Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and also RZA from The Wu-Tang Clan. It’s very moving, seeing Sean working here putting his heart into the art he learned from his parents in this very same room.
The album by Yoko will be released on Sean’s Chimera Records. And what does it sound like? It sounds like the end of the world.
🙂
As well as having their own bands – BP Fallon & His Bandits and The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger – BP Fallon (vox) and Sean Lennon (vox/guitar/drums) play together in the musical collective Operation Juliet.
