“I last saw Duck Dunn when Booker T & The MGs backed Neil Young at Finsbury Park in London in 1993. To stand there at the side of the stage and watch Neil and his harmonica splendidly croak and wheeze through Dock Of The Bay backed by Booker T Jones on organ, Steve Cropper on guitar and Duck Dunn on bass – who’d all played on Otis Redding’s sublime Stax Records original written by Redding/Cropper – these guys joined by Jim Keltner on drums who was ably filling the huge hole left by the murder of MGs drummer Al Jackson Jr in 1975… well, this was magic, Neil Young out front thrilled and honoured to have these legendary and lyrical Memphis musicians as his partners in rhythm and rhyme, Booker T’s organ swirling, Cropper’s guitar delicate, Duck Dunn’s bass pumping and throbbing, the very heartbeat of soul. So special. God bless you, Duck Dunn”.

The rock’n'roll legend will also be at the Rolling Stone Rock Room at The Riviera where he’ll be joined by New York DJs David Katz and Cash plus The Cosmic Kids, with additional appearances by surprise guests who can’t be named for contractual reasons.

Ah, The Band. Three superb frontline singers, all gone now – Rick Danko and Richard Manuel and in this extraordinary triad the most memorable vocalist Levon Helm, hunched behind the drum kit and leaning into the mic and singing of an America long gone and maybe never born.

“He was my bosom buddy friend to the end, one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation. This is just so sad to talk about. I still can remember the first day I met him and the last day I saw him. We go back pretty far and had been through some trials together. I’m going to miss him, as I’m sure a whole lot of others will too”

BP Fallon makes a rare live DJ appearance tonight when he spins at Nur Khan and Mazdack Rassi’s Electric Milk party at Writers Room, 6685 Hollywood Blvd – alley behind Musso And Frank’s off Hollywood Blvd between Las Palmas and Cherokee.

With so many people in LA – musicians, fans and benign lunatics – awaiting next weekend’s second installment of The Coachella Festival, Electric Milk will throw a party each night at Writer’s Room before returning to Coachella for more Electric Milk fun and frolics there.

Reveals regular Bandits drummer Clem Burke “I can’t do SXSW because of touring commitments so BP rang me up and said ‘What about if I ask Hector if he’s up for the drumming?’ I said ‘Yes, if you can get him, a great drummer, a very nice man, perfect for The Bandits music, he rocks and he’s powerful’. So BP rang Hector and it’s a fabulous choice”.

Also joining BP & The Bandits at SXSW is the outstanding violin and mandolin virtuoso Brendon Anthony. “Think John Cale in The Velvet Underground but even more out there” says BP enigmatically.
