SHANE
MACGOWAN GOES TO REHAB
DUBLIN
FRIDAY DECEMBER 23!
That
pair of retrobates Shane MacGowan and BP
Fallon are teaming up yet again - to check into Rehab!
And
who better to DJ with BP at Rehab's
Irish debut than Shane MacGowan.
Shane - who will play Brendan Behan
in the film adaptation of JP Dunleavy's The
Ginger Man with his chum Johnny
Depp - was spotted after the film's announcement
party last month gallivanting in strange clubs all over and
under New York with his pal BP,
the dutiful duo no doubt limbering up for the craic at Rehab
after The
Pogues Dublin Christmas Concert.
Our
celebrated Mr MacGowan has already triumphantly
DJed at seven Death Discos in Dublin
and Belfast,
getting the dance-floor jumping with everything from The
Clash and Led
Zeppelin to Joy Division and
Jerry
Lee Lewis via Sly And The Family Stone,
The Stones,
Hank Williams and The Siamsa Gaedheel Ceilidh
Band.
People
go bonkers when Shane's spinning. He's bloody
good at it, sometimes also singing into the mic over the record.
The bandleader in him reads the crowd and as the audience
rises and rises volcanically he chooses his tracks instinctively
- even though at times he might let on he doesn't give a fuck.
Ah, that vagrant poetic charm. "I like DJing,' says Shane,
"because I like, like, Hendrix and Elvis
and I can't do that in my bands - but as a DJ I can play that
music, know what I mean?"
Yes
we do, Shane,
very much so.

NEW YORK READY FOR 2006!
DJs
BP Fallon and Louise Fenton [Shindig!]
were well vibed to be joined on Thursday December
8 at the final 2005 Rehab New York by The
Big Apple's fine full-on take-no-prisoners rock'n'roll
band who checked into Rehab's cure-all DJ
booth for spinning and grinning, dancing and prancing. Yes,
the magnificent triad of Eric Strickler [gtr/vox]
and Mary Garlin [drums/vox] and Bass
[bass/vox] from the mighty Kickstart
certainly spun 'em up! And after spinning Fuck It Up by Towers
Of London, Bass gifted BP
with the single and another TOW two-tracker,
having already promised to burn him The Chamber Brothers
Time Has Come Today album as well as a cut by The
Action. Life's good.
And
Kickstart
rocked it up mega at Death Disco New York
last Wednesday December 14 and Bass laid
the tracks on BP. Have merci!
Rehab
also salutes the fab DJ Strummer for her
fantastic 90 minutes all-Stones voyage on
November 17, billed suitably as Strummer Gets Stoned.
And! The delicious Laura and Margot
and Julie of The
Assault for their tremendous two-and-a-half hours
DJ set on December 1. Simply fantastic, m'ladies! Says Julie:
"Margot, Laura and
I let loose and really shook things up - literally and figuratively..."

DOCTOR MY SOUL! NOW WE’RE
OFF TO REHAB!
“WHERE BAD HABITS GET EVEN BETTER”
The
King Of Britpop Alan McGee – co-founder
of Death Disco with BP Fallon
– jetted to New York to join BP on
the decks at the amazingly-brilliant American opening night
of Rehab.
Our
double dynamite DJ duo were joined by Alan's 17-year-old son
Dan Devine - already a demon on the discs
- and New York wild child Louise Fenton
who BP discovered when she was walking around Williamsburg
in an original Vivienne Westwood Sex Pistols
t shirt from Sex and BP asked her “You
wanna go to Rehab?” As well as DJing
up a storm, Louise is one of the people behind
the crazy New York party Shindig.
Among
those spotted grooving at Rehab's US debut were members of
The
Assault, Kickstart,
Strike
Your Trash, The
Sexy Magazines, The
Specimen, Live
Girls!!! and Lenny
Kaye from The
Patti Smith Group.

Last
time Fallon and Alan DJed
together – at Death Disco New York
- the pair of ol’ Celts were joined behind the turntables
by the wonderful Kate
Moss.

THE BEEP GOES ON
NEW
YORK, IRELAND, TRA LA LA
From
a stage invasion during his mega three-hour DJ set at the
sold-out show in his hometown of Dublin to
his Death Disco New York parties showcasing
the very future of music, BP Fallon, as the
nimble finger of summer pokes into the fresh flesh fires of
autumn, he keeps on choogling. Wham bam thank you twang.

The
Death Disco New York CMJ party featured a
rake of tremendous acts from San Francisco's
Princehouse
and Cochon
record labels, with the Bay Area's Von
Iva - four feisty female soul-shaking dance punk
queens with the hot-buttered energy and inspiration of a Sunday-morning
gospel choir on heat - explosively raising the roof alongside
the vibraphonic synth-garage rock of The
Kohl Heart and their mod sexpot singer Rachel
Taylor. Soul ain't dead, baby. An' you lookin' good...

WHEN IRISH
EYES ARE SMILING
BP
POPS OVER TO THE EMERALD FOR A COUPLE
BP
Fallon nips over to Ireland
from New York for two hot DJ engagements.
Our
hero brings the 2005
Clonakilty International Guitar Festival to a
rocking climax when Death Disco appears at
The Imperial Hotel on Sunday September
25, where BP is joined by lauded
Cork stars The
Frank And Walters plus Chucklehead
and Hybrasil in this mystical township in
the south west of Ireland.
"I'm
delighted to be playing in Clonakilty"
says BP from New York. "I've
a strong connection with Clon through
Noel Redding, a dear friend since his
days as bassplayer in The Jimi Hendix Experience.
Noel lived and died in Clon, bless him. I've fond memories
of the Clonakilty Busking Festival on which
I was a judge with Noel and even now I can see us sitting
in the sunshine in Emmet Square listening
to the buskers. Great craic. And my Godson Danny Dennehy,
he lives in Clon now with his mum Patsy".
And Fallon's former PR client and sparring-partner Roy
Harper - immortalised by Led
Zeppelin in their song Hats
Off To Harper and among the twelve fine artists
in the Clonakilty Guitar Festival - he lives nearby too.
And
from County Cork BP heads to Dublin
where he is Special Guest DJ at the Dun
Laoghaire Arts College Freshers Ball - also know
as the IADT. There, he's supported by the
thrilling new band that Hot Press have been
loudly trumpeting, The Marshall Stars. Ah,
what magnificent mainline rock'n'roll fun!

When they played that song at the Death Disco...
Before
splitting to DJ at DD, BP Fallon and Shane
MacGowan caught much of the Croke Park U2
Vertigo concert where in the middle of Running
To Stand Still Bono launched into The Pogues
version of Dirty Old Town and the whole stadium sang
along before Bono dedicated the song to Shane,
much to the delight of the 80,000 fans and a grinning MacGowan.

Radiators
Plan 9 had opened for U2 and now Radiators

DEATH DISCO DUBLIN YOU TOO VERTICAL PARTY!
The mighty Shane MacGowan re-unites with his chum BP
Fallon when the double dynamite DJ duo spin at Death

It will be six months since BP and Shane last
DJed in Ireland, when they raised the roof at the infamous
DD Dublin XXXmas
Party at The Village with the great Ronnie
Drew.

BP will fly in from his weekly DD New York and
all points west he lately did two hit, git and split
Death Discos in Vancouver
on two consecutive nights at two different venues in the Canadian
city while U2s Vertigo tour was in town,
as well as another Death Disco Frisco. And this will
be Shanes last European appearance before
he and The

And joining BP and Shane on the decks is Steve
Rapid - who gave U2 their name – and Pete Holidai,
both from pioneering punk visionaries The
Radiators From Space - who also included Philip

Radiators Plan 9 with Pogue Cait O’Riordan,
the re-united Steve, Pete and Philip play with

BLIP A LULA
BP IN T.REX BORN TO BOOGIE DVD

A blip of BP pops up in the new Marc Bolan and T.Rex
DVD of
Born To Boogie [Sanctuary]. Pictured during the dressing
room melee with Marc and Ringo Starr immediately
after the famous 1972 Wembley T.Rex concerts, the bearded
visage of Marcs twinkley-eyed mainman flashes
across the screen enigmatically.
When introducing Born To Boogie at its June 9 2005
American premiere at The Sunshine Cinema in New
York, the celebrated T.Rex record producer Tony
Visconti mentioned that Sanctuary are preparing a DVD
of Marc Bolans collected TV performances and
teasingly hinted maybe BP Fallon will be in it.
BP Fallon is acknowledged as an essential force in
Marc Bolans rise to fame, having helped create
the biggest boogaloo in Britain since The Beatles.
He was Bolans renowned publicist and mental guru
from 1969 to 1972, from the hippied embers of Tyrannosaurus
Rex through the frenzied mania of T.Rextasy
a word BP invented. Marc had celebrated
his pal as Purple Browed Beep in the T.Rex
hit Telegram Sam and the boppin pair remained
close friends, writing and recording 21st Century Stance
together only days before the 29-year-old Marc danced
himself into the tomb on September 16 1977.
Other
DVDs in which BP appears are by John
Lennon and Led
Zeppelin.

performance on German TV’s Hits A Go Go broadcast from Bremen

The
Duchess RIP
Death Disco salutes Bo Diddley’s
stunning guitar-playing foil Norma-Jean Richardson
aka The Duchess – immortalized in The Animals’
1964 song The Story Of Bo Diddley - who passed last
May 7 in Fontana, CA. The Duchess, teasin’ vocals
and her hip-shootin’ twanging as dangerous as Sheriff Bo’s
gunned-up jugular jungle rhythms… and in gold lame or mother’s
daughter gospel dress, always as foxy as a Jimi lady.
RIP our Duchess Of Earl.

GROOVER!
BPF DOES DDV!
BP Fallons first visit to Vancouver since
playing there on The Zoo TV
Tour with U2 saw our dubious hero rushing around
this beautiful Canadian city for a couple of days and nights
spewing forth a barrage of rocknroll and bon mots.
At the two pre-U2
concert parties at SkyBar, he was interviewed on stage
and conducted a couple of hilarious Q&As with the audience
before DJing awhile, returning to SkyBar
one night after the U2 concert to rock it up behind
the decks there some more.
Additionally, BP launched a searing search and destroy
one-man Death Disco Vancouver campaign ring
up, run in, up with The Ramones
DD banner, the You Are Here posters, light the
candle, now lets DJ, please - at The
Cellar and The
Media Club. In full hit, git and split mode, our fab
Fallon manhandled the decks to the max for an hour
or so at each rock club to a gob-smacked crowd going mental
before vanishing back into legend.
Rocknroll is here to stay noted our
exhausted but delighted DJ.
BPF thanks ETS,

TALKS TO MOJO ABOUT MARC BOLAN
"It was the changing of the guard, the biggest new sensation
in Britain since The Fabs, here, live, very live, in
front of all these joyous weeping shrieking fans all looking
like the star and going stark raving bonkers, having the time
of their lives. Rock'n'Roll was made for this. And so was
Marc Bolan.
"He had the power, he had the magic, strutting, posing,
twanging, laughing, the prince of pleasure teasing for pleasing,
singing and grinning, let's take a guitar solo... life's a
fucking gas, man, it really is. With my Les Paul, I
know I'm small bit I enjoy living anyway. You're dirty and
sweet. Fuck me.
"And Ringo was filming this mayhem, this T.Rextasy
that was the biggest boogaloo since Beatlemania, this
bearded guy urging on his cameramen, and no one gives a toss
about Fabdom, not even Ringo right now. The crown of
stars has been passed on and Ringo, fair play to him,
is helping the new hero Marc wear it gloriously. There
were no thorns in it, then" - BP Fallon, February 2005
BP Fallon was Marc Bolan’s PR and mental guru from
1969 to 1972, from Tyrannosaurus to T.Rextasy,
with Marc describing his pal as ‘Purple Browed Beep’
in the T.Rex hit Telegram Sam. When BP left
professionally he didn’t know what to say so he wrote his
friend a song: It’s Alright, Marc [I’m Only Leaving]

DEATH
DISCO NEW YORK GETS STONED!
Andrew
Loog Oldham - the maverick enfant terrible who managed,
launched and produced The Rolling Stones - popped into
DD NYC to see firsthand the cutting edge of rock'n'roll
and electro today. In town to record his Sirius
satellite radio programme, Andrew was en route to his
homebase of Bogota, Columbia, where he is writing
another book to follow his inspirational Stoned and
2Stoned tomes.
BPF
and ALO last met in Tralee in Ireland
last fall, when Fallon interviewed Oldham live
on stage at The Kerry Film Festival before the screening
of the rare 1965 ALO Stones movie Charlie Is My
Darling. A most memorable night in the west of Ireland.
At
Death Disco New York, the man who did publicity for
The Beatles, who tutored the Stones in their
outlaw stance, who locked Mick and Keith
into a room until they'd written their first song, who discovered
Marianne
Faithfull and co-wrote her first hit As Tears Go
By with Mick and Keith, who recorded Nico
before her VU
daze, who signed The Small Faces and Peter Green's
Fleetwood Mac to his Immediate label where the
house mainman/studio guitarist was Jimmy
Page... whose Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra
interpretation of The Last Time was stolen hook, sink
and musical meltdown by The Verve for their Bitter
Sweet Symphony and Andrew got the dosh... this
legend of rock'n'roll whose vast influence has touched our
lives in one way or another, at DD NYC Andrew Loog Oldham
surveyed the scene smiling wrily to himself like an emperor
who has seen it all... and is almost tempted to leap
back into the pool. ALO: we salute you.
